The Mardi Gras Woman – Mr. Morgan P. McCarthy

Her name is Virginia Principal, and she is on her way to Legion Park here in De Pere just down the road to celebrate a costume party with her Baptist church. Having a burden for souls, this Mardi Gras woman, a born-again Christian, seeks to win Flanders’s soul for Christ. The Shetland Sheepdog Keeper, Miss Flaurie Shelty Boroughs, is a mistress to a family of seven Shelties. Her Shetland Sheepdogs’ names are “Tea,” and “Coffee,” and “Trilby” and “Shelby” and “Welby” and “Colby” and “Alby.” Today Flaurie is attired in a fairy princess bridal gown with her Shelties and awaiting a groom to come walking up alongside County Trunk U. God told her that this day he would send a groom her way on this road. This groom must pass God’s tests with three questions posed by the bride. The first four men who come walking down County U all fail the tests. Will there come a fifth young man who can say, “Yes,” to all three queries?

And the final battle between good and evil takes place in the Palatial Palace—the home of Aphrodite and her daughters.

Flanders Nickels suddenly discovers a girl in his high school who is dressed in blue jeans and long-sleeved blue shirt and vest, and he falls for her instantly. Her name is ‘Se Marier Clark,’ and she is as pretty as her outfit. But her presence conflicts with two wars against himself that he is fighting in his head. And he must keep his mind off of her. And he most certainly must not ask her out. But she kind of likes him. And he gives in and goes on a date with her at home, and she goes on to share with him her wisdom as a born-again believer. And his two wars are resolved in his private life to the glory of Christ.

My collection of Christian short stories, numbering one hundred in all, I affectionately call ‘My Canon of Horsetails and Cattails.’ And my collection of Christian novels, numbering fifteen in all, I affectionately call ‘My Canon of Griffins and Unicorns.’ And my pen name—Flanders Nickels—I came up with from nowhere some time back in the mid-1980’s. And my writing ministry for God I happily call ‘My Canon Ministry.’ I use only the King James Version Bible. And I am a fundamental Baptist. I hope that you have fun reading for free on this website. And I myself became a born-again believer in Christ in a most wondrous time around Christmas in 1990 in a soul-changing twelve days which I fondly call ‘My Twelve Days of Christmas.’ It is written, ‘”…, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,…” Acts 16:31.’
